"Vintage Macs come and go, Vintage Mac Museums typically tend to Grow. One particularly impressive Museum is Moving On. The Mac Museum of Franklin Park, NJ has been put up for sale on eBay."

The Mac Museum of New Jersey has put their collection up for sale, but you can only buy it whole. It ends on October 7th so head on over to eBay if you have a need for some vintage stuff, including a Lisa. So far the auction is just over $2,000.00 USD.

Oh My, How the Ads Have Changed

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Classic Apple" @ 09:00 AM

"As Apple's latest TV commercials for the iPhone 4's "FaceTime" functionality dazzle us with blandness, it got us thinking about the company's ad campaigns of years gone by."

You really appreciate the ads they are doing now when compared to some of the ones shown in this article. The one above isn't too bad, rather funny, but some of them are horrendous. I didn't realize Kevin Costner did an Apple ad until I read this article.

R.I.P PowerPC

"Apple has updated its list of Mac and other products it considers vintage and/or obsolete. The company will cease providing any product support or spare parts for these models from next month."

I guess it's pretty appropo that we are talking about old Macs going to the graveyard this close to Halloween, and with this updated list the PowerPC is pretty much gone. Any product that was discontinued more than five but less than seven years is considered vintage, while any product discontinued over seven years is considered obsolete. Apple has a list on their site as well. Interesting to note that they can consider products vintage and not provide support, except if it was purchased in California and it falls under a certain statute. No other state has that qualifier.

Did Your Computer Make the List?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Classic Apple" @ 12:00 PM

"Independent Mac repair shops all over the world are rejoicing this week, after Apple's announcement the company will phase out repair support for certain G4 machines, xserve products and other "vintage" and "obsolete" gear."

Products are labeled "vintage" after being discontinued more than 5 and less than 7 years, and "obsolete" more than 7 years after being discontinued. You can check the list over at Apple and see if you have any of these products. Have no fear you PowerBook G4 owners, you can still get parts for them! Oh, you own an Apple StyleWriter too? So sorry.
