Sync iCloud to Dropbox

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/04/03/sync...oud-to-dropbox/

"Mac and iOS users are going to be increasingly pushed to choose between storing their documents in iCloud or Dropbox."

Well, now you don't have to choose. Well, choice in that you have to choose the syncing from iCloud to Dropbox and not the other way around. Regardless, if you are like me and mainly use Dropbox for storage, you might like to mess with your settings and set this functionality up. It's kind of a set it and forget it plan, and once done you don't have to think about it at all. The author uses it to set up his Byword app but the process can be followed for any of your apps.

Just How Fast is This Over The Air Syncing?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:00 AM

"One of the big new features in iOS 5 is liberation from your sync cable. Now, you can sync your music, movies, and apps all over Wi-Fi-albeit a bit slower than over USB. How much slower? We put it to the test to find out whether it was still fast enough to be worth your time."

As you can see, and as expected, it is faster to do all of this over USB, however I think the convenience of sync and forget, which will allow you to continue to use your iDevice will be worth the negatives of the slower speeds. What are your thoughts?

1Password and Dropbox

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:30 AM

http://brooksreview.net/2010/07/1pa...-using-dropbox/

"1Password can now sync via the cloud using Dropbox - this is a long awaited feature and is implemented really well. 1Password is a must have for any computer user - it stores all your passwords and automatically logs you in to sites. It can help you create secure passwords and even store billing addresses and credit card info making checkout really fast on sites."

A welcome update indeed! Fair warning, this only works on the 1Password Pro version for the time being, but will be available soon on all versions once approved by Apple. To enable it, once you get the new version and if you have already been syncing via Dropbox, all you have to do is update your app. Macworld has a tutorial on how Dropbox syncing in general works if you aren't familiar, and if you already have 1Password and Dropbox syncing enabled, you can find out the details at 1Password on how to set up the automatic syncing.

Firefox Home - Half a Browser?

Posted by Michael Knutson in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 01:30 PM

http://theappleblog.com/2010/07/20/...+(TheAppleBlog)

"Last week saw the arrival of Firefox on the iPhone, but not as we know it. Mozilla's new app, known as Firefox Home, is not strictly a browser - instead it brings your desktop browsing session direct to your iPhone."

This afternoon I installed Firefox Home on my iPhone and Firefox Sync on my iMac. After installing, syncing everything took about a minute on each side, and produced 2 tabs, 638 bookmarks and 29 history items. The iPhone app has Search, Tabs, Bookmarks and Settings options. No option to view history directly, but you can get there using Search.
