The Battle of the Stylus'

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.maclife.com/article/revi...ylus_duo_review

"Remember Lloyd Dobler's classic line, "I gave her my heart, and she gave me a pen"? Poor Lloyd. Maybe if Diane Court's lame parting gift was a pen with integrated iPad stylus, some of that heartbreak would have been ameliorated. But they got back together by the end of the movie, so I guess it's OK."

It seems like the argument is never settled when it comes to which stylus to use, kind of like the to-do list battle I suppose. I have opted for the Alumapen Pro, mainly because I think it looks better. What are your thoughts?

AluPen Pro Stylus

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.insanely-great.com/news....t=Google+Reader

"The AluPen Pro is a combo ballpoint pen and rubber tipped stylus. The product comes with a replaceable tip for when the little rubber bubble wears out. Also has a small carrying case to protect the stylus and keep it from scratching anything in a bag."

Great option if you are looking for a stylus, since it also has a pen for those times when you need to actually write something down on paper. Best of both worlds. It's available now for around $36.00 USD [affiliate link].

Macenstein Reviews the Style iT 2

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:12 PM

http://macenstein.com/default/2012/...stylus-and-pen/

"'If you see a Stylus, they blew it'. So said Steve Jobs when talking about competing companies' tablet and touch-phone offerings - and for the most part he's right."

And I tend to agree, and for the most part I don't need a stylus with my iPad. But I'm trying to go paperless and for taking notes with Notability, having a stylus makes it much easier. It doesn't hurt that this one also has a regular pen for those times you actually have to write on paper! What are your thoughts on using a stylus with the iPad? Or do you just use the old reliable finger?

Jot Touch Stylus From Adonit, Too Much?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.imore.com/2012/01/29/han...-stylus-adonit/

"The folks at Adonit have been working hard on their new product, the Jot Touch, a pressure sensitive stylus with a built-in antenna and a free SDK kit for drawing app developers."

Too much as in it seems pretty complicated to me, but then again i'm used to just a regular old stylus or the tip of my finger. I suppose being able to have tight control over the end of the stylus would be useful for those doing intricate work on their iPad or tablet, but for the regular user like me, I don't see the value. What are your thoughts?

Wacom Bamboo Stylus Due Out in May

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/#!5793134/the-wa...us-for-the-ipad

"Using a stylus with the iPad is pretty silly! But this Wacom Bamboo Stylus might not be. Not only does it have the Wacom name behind it, but the Bamboo Stylus has a tip (6mm) that's 25% narrower than most other stylii, which should help make the Bamboo Stylus more accurate."

I don't agree that using a stylus is silly, since I use a stylus frequently with my iPad when taking notes, etc. But the one I have does have a rather large tip so something like this with a narrower tip would be an improvement. This one is due to be released in May for around $30.00 USD. What are your thoughts on using a stylus, yay or nay?

Hard Candy Cases Gets It Write: The Candy iPad Stylus and Pen

Posted by Eric Juillerat in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:00 AM

Leave it to Hard Candy Cases to get it write - quite literally. Behold the new iPad Stylus (for the iPhone too)! Upon freeing the iPad Stylus from it's packaging you will immediately notice its significance. It exudes a feel of quality workmanship and precision. The weight and balance is pleasing. And upon further inspection you find excellent machining, threading, and even gaskets that all contribute to a well made instrument; an instrument that is uniquely, both a stylus and a pen. And so here begins a tale of two tips... Read more...

Griffin Stylus for Touch Screens (aka iPads/iPhone/iPod Touch)

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...one-ipod-touch/

"Originally shown on Griffin's web site as the Stylus for iPad ($20), the package actually reads "Stylus" and now references the "iPad + iPhone + iPod touch," suggesting that this miniature pen-sized tool might appeal to all Apple touchscreen device users."

I might have to give this one a try, as I'm interested in doing more with my iPad such as taking notes, etc. There are several in the iTunes store that allow you to take written notes, such as Ghostwriter Notes [affiliate link] for $2.99 USD, iNotes for iPad [affiliate link] for $3.99 USD, PadNotes [affiliate link] for $0.99 USD or even SketchPad HD [affiliate link] for $0.99 USD that doubles as a sketch pad, complete with color palette. If you want something a little fancier, WritePad for iPad [affiliate link] for $9.99 USD has handwriting recognition as well as DropBox and Wi-Fi syncing capabilities. I'm sure there are many more as well, so the options are out there, and this stylus appears to be just the accessory that will work with them.

Pen Developed For Capacitive Touch Screens

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2008/1...pen-technology/

"InPlay Technologies has announced their new WriteSense digital pen technology which eliminates the need for a separate electromagnetic digitizer. InPlay's RF pen communicates directly with the capacitive touch sensors rather than requiring a digitizer. The immediate benefits result in much smaller form factor slate and convertible tablet pcs, as well as reduce costs for bringing tablet pcs to market. As more OEMs begin to integrate capacitive touch sensors in to their screens (think Windows 7), InPlay's solution could bust the gate wide open for Tablet PC technologies. Look for the WriteSense pen technology to come to market in mid 2009."

My immediate thought when I read this was how cool it would be to have a pen option for the iPhone for note taking and drawing apps. I'm perfectly happy not needing a stylus anymore, but there are occasions where it would be useful. This may work out to be a pretty cool idea.
