Halopad, One of Those "Why Didn't I Think of That" iPad Stands

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/170059/hal...sal-ipad-stand/

"The Halopad is - not surprisingly - an iPad stand in the shape of a halo. Not that you'll find this halo floating over the heads of saintly prophets - instead it is simply a chunky, lightweight plastic ring which has slots cut into it for propping the iPad at various angles. It's simple, it's cheap, and it's not ugly."

It's usually the way I feel about most Kickstarter projects though, "why didn't I think of that?" If you get in early, you will save $9.99 USD off the future retail price of $29.99 USD.

Have Some Extra Hammers? Make Your Own iPad Stand

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5901992/literall...d-an-ipad-stand

"You might not be handy with a hammer or a screwdriver, but this clever iPad stand beingsold on Etsy shows that you don't actually need any construction skills to build a highly-functional stand. Just the tools themselves."

I do have several hammers, but I think I would rather buy this than build it..even if it sells for $95.00. Not that I'm going to buy it mind you, it's just that I'm not that handy when it comes to making my own stuff. But if you are interested, you can check out the Etsy site and see this and other items.

Mophie's iPad Stand

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:19 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...stand-for-ipad/

"Mophie's take on an iPad stand shouldn't come as a surprise."

Mophie brings their version of the iPad stand to the table, and I have to say I do like it. Lightweight aluminum, adjustable arm that rotates to show portrait or landscape views, charging station and it works on all three versions of the iPad. The only downside, and it's a small one, is that you have to remove the case from your iPad before using this. Oh wait, there is that small thing about price. At $150.00 it is not cheap, and for what you get, I think it's overpriced. What are your thoughts?

Let The Satechi R1 Hold Your Tablet

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.mactech.com/2012/04/03/s...iety-situations

"Tablets and larger mobile devices have changed our lives since the debut of the iPad, and we love holding those devices in our hands. We touch, create, and consume all while we have the device on our laps or hands."

But sometimes it is helpful to have a handy stand available, just like this one. At $49.95 USD it isn't too cheap, but it appears to be pretty functional, and it works for any number of devices that have a 7" to 10" screen, such as Galaxy Tabs, Kindle Fires, Asus Eee Pad and the Blackberry Playbook. You can find out more about this device at the Satechi site.

Ten One Design Magnus iPad Stand, How Stable Is It?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://vimeo.com/36051004

"I shot a quick video 1 using my father's Ten One Design Magnus stand for the iPad 2. The point of which is to see if the iPad tips over while being used in the stand."

It seems pretty stable, although Ben comments that the angle isn't really that great for your desk due to the steepness. Nice looking stand though if you planned on leaving your iPad out of a case or were going to use it for a digital photo frame or to watch a movie I suppose. What are your thoughts?

The Magnus iPad Stand, Minimalistic and Functional

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:43 PM

http://www.digitaltrends.com/lifest...ect-ipad-stand/

"The Magnus iPad stand works with magnets designed for the iPad 2 to create an almost gravity-defying minimalistic design."

I really like the clean look of this, as it almost makes the iPad appear to be floating in air when in use. It is a bit pricey at $50.00 USD, but not outlandish. Besides, it sure goes well with the form factor of Apple products doesn't it?

Pretend Your Desk is an Apple Retail Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/22/ipad...le-store-charm/

"This is cute. The iPad 2 display dock is a new product by a company called New PC Gadgets that's basically a dock for your iPad 2 that looks just like the ones holding the devices in Apple Stores."

This is a slick display, perfect for your desktop. And it does look like something you would see in an Apple retail store, but it comes at a price. For $74.95 USD you too can own one of these, available now from New PC Gadgets. Seems pretty steep to me, but to each his own.

The Smartphone Coaster: Shiny, Simple, Affordable

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Accessories" @ 08:00 AM

If you've got more than a couple of gadgets, you've probably come up with places to put them - but it might not be an ideal one. Back in the day, PDAs came with cradles, so when you weren't using your PDA you'd have it in the cradle charging. Cradles exist for some devices now - mostly MP3 players at this point - but they're increasingly rare when it comes to smartphones, largely because the sync/charge ports are rarely on the bottom any more (the iPhone is an exception of course). So where do you put your gadgets? Enter the Smartphone Coaster from newPCgadgets.com, a simple but effective product. Read more...

iRest for Your iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...stand-for-ipad/

"Combining the better design and functional characteristics of separate iPad lap and desk stands we've seen from other companies, Rain Design's new iRest ($50) uses a mix of aluminum, hard plastic, and soft foam components to do double duty as a desktop iPad easel and as a padded lap stand."

This is a gorgeous stand, something that would fit in just about anywhere, especially the desktop though. If you are looking for a cleanly designed stand for your iPad, this might fit the bill. You can find out more about it at the RainDesign website.

ZeroChroma Vario Stand for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:30 AM

http://gigaom.com/mobile/ipad-stand...GigaOM:+Mobile)

"There's a good chance the special person in your life already has an iPad, so if you're wondering what a good, iPad-related gift might be this holiday season, you may want to consider the Vario stand from Zerochroma."

Nice combo unit, that combines a stand that can also be turned so you can use in portrait or landscape mode. The surface is textured, so combine that with the built-in handle and it also makes it pretty easy to hold onto your iPad. It also works as a screen protector. All you have to do is take it off the back and flip the iPad around, then snap it over the screen. It sells for $69.95 USD on the ZeroChroma website.

Which iPad Stand do you use?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/11/27/tuaw...ut-ipad-stands/

"Not a day had passed after the introduction of the iPad on April 3, 2010 that we began hearing about stands for the device."

I kinda like this stand called the PropUp, $24.95 USD in their online store, but there are several useful stands in this article from which to choose. When it comes right down to it though, the last one called the Fellowes Wire Study Stand from Amazon.com would work just fine, and it is only $5.69 USD, plus shipping of course.

iKlip, The Stage Adapter for the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/155...logs_ioscentral

"The iPad, with its vast array of music education and performance apps, can be a handy tool for musicians-so why not take it on stage? With IK Multimedia's iKlip, you can do just that. The iKlip is a universal microphone stand adapter for the iPad that secures your iPad to virtually any microphone stand for optimal on-stage viewing."

And at only $40.00 USD, shipping starts in December. Seems like it would work pretty well for those musicians that have their sheet music on the iPad. Or lyrics. Or perhaps put that amplifier program on your iPad and rock it out. Innovative to say the least.

Nifty Stand for Your iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/03/22/movi...-easy-to-clean/

"Here's a nifty little iPhone stand for you. MoviePeg is basically just a piece of plastic with a notch cut into it that slides over an iPhone. Its design makes it the simplest iPhone stand I've ever seen."

At £5 (roughly $7.50 USD with todays exchange rates) it is cheap and simple. One of those things that makes you wonder why you didn't think of it. Or if you had, why you didn't make it. They come in 6 colors and more info can be found at the MoviePeg website.

Macessity's NX Stand for Laptops

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.macnn.com/articles/09/11...al.hard.drives/

"Macessity has released a new product for its line of laptop accessories, the NX stand. The notebook stand features steel construction with an aluminum-color powder coat, with a design enabling users to stand their laptop vertically within a cushioned slot."

An option for you if you have an external display you want to use your laptop with, and need to conserve space. This retails for around $60.00 USD. I like the addition of the USB ports and the form factor is very nice.

Crabbie, When Paperclips Just Don't Cut It Anymore

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/140...09484:b24205658

"Have you ever tried watching a video on your iPhone or iPod touch and thought to yourself: "Man, I sure wish I had a stand that could hold up my i-device for me"? Maybe you were at a coffee shop or on an airplane and needed two free hands, or maybe you're simply an enthusiastic thumb twiddler. Either way, a company called Seskimo was reading your mind, but just this once, it's okay."

I have never, to be honest, needed anything like this but I thought it was an interesting device, especially since I've seen some workarounds made out of paperclips. If someone was going to all that trouble to make one out of paperclips, this might be something they would find useful. It comes in a variety of colors and is very compact, so perhaps the price of $5.00 USD is worth it, especially if you are going through boxes of paperclips to enhance your viewing pleasure.

And if this one doesn't suit you, there is always the iZel, but that one will set you back $25.00 USD.
