A Pro Photographer Reviews the MacBook Pro Retina Display

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/r...ro_retina.shtml

"It's been my experience, working with photographers all over the world at my workshops and seminars, that the vast majority use Mac laptops."

So it only makes sense that a pro review this right? Very thorough, and I especially like that he also provides information on the Thunderbolt drives that go with this wonderful machine. Well worth the read if you are thinking of picking one of these up. And even if you aren't, it's interesting reading.

"Apple has released a FAQ that covers the new Retina MacBook Pro."

In this they cover what is on the product page as well as items that might come up when you start using the MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Many topics covered in it, and you can check it out here.

"This Machine IS the Form Factor and the Screen"

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 02:00 AM

http://christina.is/the-new-macbook-pro

"Apple released a new MacBook Pro this week and I want one. Badly. More than I have wanted any gadget or computing device in quite some time."

I have to agree with Christina, the new MacBook Pro is a game changer, not so much with the Retina Display but with the power they pack into the smaller form factor. Interesting article and worth the read.

MacBook Pro Retina Display Review From Engadget

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/06/14/enga...retina-display/

"Engadget was at WWDC and had the opportunity to spend some time with the next generation MacBook Pro. After a few days with the machine, Tim Stevens and company shared their thoughts about the Retina MacBook Pro in a recent review."

It raises the bar per Engadget, but you can read that for yourself over at their review.

Retina Display Featured in MacBook Pro Commercial

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 11:47 AM

http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/13/reti...ly+(OS+X+Daily)

"Apple has started to run commercials for the Mac line again, with the newest ad focused on the speedy new MacBook Pro with Retina display."

Love the ghostly hands moving around on the keyboard.

Aperture, iPhoto and Final Cut Pro Updated for Retina Display

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:30 PM

http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/11/apple...e+Intelligence)

"Several of Apple's popular Mac apps received updates today following the WWDC keynote, many of which help the apps take full advantage of the new 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro's display."

Aperture got most of the update love, but they didn't leave out iPhoto or Final Cut Pro so those two programs could also take advantage of the Retina Display on the new Macbook Pros.

Retina Display the Focus of the New Ad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:46 AM

http://www.tipb.com/2010/10/05/ipho...ne,+iPad,+iPod)

"Apple has just posted a new iPhone 4 commercial, this one called "Every" and focused on the 960×640 Retina Display."

They hit on all the high points of the screen, such as zooming into a child's face so you can see the freckles, checking out the font of the New York Times and home video highlights. Seems natural that they focus on the screen since that seems to be the focus of the competition lately. And of course they hit the emotions as only Apple can do.

Competition for the iPhone 4 Retina Display?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/04/...inus-the-brand/

"WVGA's so 2009, isn't it? Sharp has broken Android's usual 800 (or 854) x 480 mold this week with the introduction of the IS03 for Japan's KDDI au network, boasting a full 960 x 640 on its 3.5-inch screen -- matching the iPhone 4's so-called retina display -- along with Advanced Super View (ASV) technology, delivering the same kind of viewing angle benefits you find in IPS."

For all it's advantages, including the 9.6 megapixel camera, it is only available in Japan. Wonder why they say "so-called retina display," isn't that what it is called? Regardless, I like the fact this phone has the ability for the contactless payment system and the image stabilization option, as well as the support for Global Passport CDMA. Oh and it is soon to be available in three colors. Lot's of advantages, if you are in Japan.

iPhone 4 Retina Display, How Does it Compare?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:31 AM

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/sho...t=Google+Reader

"Ray Soneira, President of DisplayMate Technologies, conducted a shootout between the iPhone 4 Retina Display and the Samsung Galaxy S Super OLED Display."

He also compares the iPhone 4 with the iPhone 3GS, the Motorola Droid, and the Google Nexus One, as well as a "Super" LCD versus OLED comparison. Bottom line, the iPhone 4 display is, in the words of the reviewer, the brightest and sharpest display and is the most power efficient. If you don't believe me, you can read the report here [link], but even if you do believe me the report is an interesting read.

Doodle Jump Updates to Take Advantage of Retina Display

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/08/21/dood...display-update/

"Doodle Jump has released a free update, available now, that not only brings out that underwater content that Igor Pusenjak promised us in that interview a little while back, but also updates the graphics on the app to take full advantage of the iPhone 4's Retina Display, so you can see the little doodle jumping up those platforms clearer and sharper than ever."

A very addicting game made even better with this update.

What is the Right Answer on Retinal Display?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.loopinsight.com/2010/06/...se-says-expert/

"Apple's Retina Display included in the iPhone 4 has caused quite a stir this week, including claims that Apple is misleading consumers. However, a vision scientist contacted by The Loop says Apple has it right."

Haven't read too much about this dispute, as it appears to have died out but this is a pretty interesting article on the retina display on the new iPhone 4. It started when a post by Wired quoted Raymond Soneira of DisplayMate Technologies. Mr Soneira said that "the math just doesn't add up. Retina display is a misleading marketing term."

William Beaudot of Kybervision says not so fast in his blog post, and states that "it is actually quite accurate based on a 20/20 visual acuity." Anyway, if you are interested at all in this, it's a pretty thorough and technical explanation of what it all means.
