Is Your New iPad Overheating?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

"If you picked up a new iPad this past weekend, you might have experienced something Apple had not advertised about its latest tablet. Numerous customers are complaining via message boards that Apple's third generation iPad is overheating, according to The Daily Mirror."

There are some posts on Apples discussion boards about overheating issues, but I haven't experienced it with mine. Have you experienced this?

iPod So Powerful it can Stop a Train!

"Poor Apple. The company just can't catch a break these days. On Wednesday, Apple Japan began offering customers iPod nano replacements, giving in to local government demands to better address an overheating battery issue affecting Apple's first generation iPod nano players."

Apparently this iPod owner was one of those who didn't take up Apple on its offer, or perhaps she was on her way to the Apple store to do just that when this happened. How ironic would that have been?

Newsflash! iPad Overheats When Exposed to the Sun!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:30 AM

"Apple was sued last week over claims that its iPad easily overheats, then suddenly switches itself off."

Part of the lawsuit claimed that when exposed to direct sunlight, the iPad heats up. Huh? Its enclosed in metal so why wouldn't it?? But I get it that they are frustrated. They planned on being able to take their iPad to the beach, or sit in the sun and read their books. Now all they get is the "iPad needs to cool down before you can use it" message and it shuts down on them. Perhaps though, they should try using a case to cover up the metal case before going out into direct sunlight? I've used mine out on our deck, in the sunlight, and haven't had this problem, but I've always had a case on it. Not sure if that has been tried by these folks since the lawsuit doesn't address it, but it sure seems like they would before going the route of a lawsuit. Or am I missing something here?

Apple Issues Warning About Heat

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 12:00 PM

"Whether or not anecdotal reports of iPhones overheating are true or not, Apple has taken them seriously enough to reveal the presence of a temperature warning screen for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. Here's the deal: an unknown but probably very small number of iPhones have been affected by overheating, to the point that some white iPhone 3GSes have allegedly turned pink. Sascha Segan, our phone analyst, said he hasn't seen any such problems with his iPhone 3GS, however."

There ya go. Heat can hurt electronics. Aren't you glad we have have companies to tell us stuff like this?
