MobileMe Now Works With Outlook for Windows

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 11:39 AM

"Outlook users on Windows who have problems syncing their calendars with the new MobileMe Calendar web app will want to grab an updated MobileMe Control Panel for Windows, released yesterday."

The update was released yesterday (you can get it here), so version 1.6.6 of the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows will give you compatibility with the new MobileMe calendar, and also fixes the generic bugs and compatibility issues that every other update fixes it seems.

MobileMe Calendar Web App Will Work With Microsoft Outlook

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:30 AM

"Yesterday, Apple announced on its MobileMe news blog that their upcoming MobileMe calendar web application can work with Microsoft's Outlook. Users will be able to view their MobileMe calendars in Outlook as well as edit them."

I don't use outlook, but I imagine this could be very useful for those that do, especially if you use Outlook at work and iCal at home. Currently, MobileMe Calendar Beta doesn't support push calendar updates or connection through a proxy server. I imagine that since the blog post says "not currently available(italics mine)", that this will eventually change. Is anybody excited about this, or is this a feature you could never imagine using?

Office for Mac to Include Outlook

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

"Hell has frozen over: Microsoft's Mac Business Unit says that the next version of Office for Mac will arrive in 2010 with a genuine Outlook client and better Exchange support."

According to a Microsoft rep, "Because it's designed for the Mac, it will be different from Outlook for Windows," Wilfrid said. "But it will be fully compatible. For instance, Outlook for Mac will support Information Rights Management, which controls access to sensitive documents." Using Cocoa framework and a different database design is supposed to improve the integration with Time Capsule as well. I've never been a fan of Outlook anyway, too many other choices that I think work better, but regardless of that, Microsoft has issued a press release if you are interested in all the changes.
