Finally Apple! An iTunes Match Primer

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 06:00 AM

"With the service launching in the United States last month, it may seem a little late, but Apple has very recently launched a website dedicated to iTunes Match. Previously, iTunes Match was given a slab of the iTunes in the Cloud website."

All I can say is, it's about time. You can access the site and view video and read about the process, along with some FAQs that were posted to hopefully answer your questions about this service that Apple launched last month.

Outside the US? Let Apple Show You What is Available in the Cloud

"Apple has finally made it very clear exactly which media content can be made available in the cloud in which countries for Automatic Downloads and Apple TV streaming, as well as where iTunes Match is available."

If you are outside the United States, you can head over to this support document at Apple and find out which countries are supported by iTunes match and iCloud capability. The chart on the page shows the countries alphabetically and also what kind of iTunes content will be available in the "Cloud" for you. As a general rule of thumb, applications and books are available in all the countries, but only four countries (Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the U.S.) off all options.

Upgrade Your iTunes Music Painlessly to Music Match

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:00 AM

"So you've bought iTunes Match, which gives you access to shiny new 256kbps AAC versions of your audio files. But by default your iTunes library is still packed with your old files. So how best to upgrade all of those old files, in place, to the new versions?"

So simple, and fast. I did this just as he describes and it works flawlessly.

iTunes Music Match Arrives

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:20 AM

"Two weeks late, Apple's match-and-mirror music in the cloud service iTunes Match has finally launched while retaining its beta status. In the meantime, iTunes 10.5.1 for both Windows and Mac has been released, so get downloading if you intend on using iTunes Match."

The bonus here, is that if you sign up for the beta, you get an extra 3 months of the service for free. The downside is that once the beta period is over, you will have all of your files deleted by Apple so you will have to start the process over again. Not sure I want to go through the hassle, but I sure would like to see how it is all going to work so I think I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet, what are your thoughts?

iTunes Music Match to Allow Streaming

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:10 AM

"When Apple announced iTunes Match at WWDC back in June, it was a little unclear whether the service would allow you to stream your music library to your iOS devices as opposed to storing it locally - allowing you to access your tracks without actually taking up any of your precious storage space."

It wasn't announced but it was always one option we were hoping for, and it appears Apple came through. This was all revealed when Apple released their iTunes 10.5 Beta 6.1 to developers yesterday. You can watch how it all works in this video from Insanely Great Mac. And it appears for your yearly price of $24.99 USD, you get to store approximately 250 GB of music (25,000 songs). That isn't a bad price at all. What are your thoughts?
