Save iWork on iDisk

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 AM

http://hints.macworld.com/article.p...101118053823190

"In iWork for the iPad, there are options to transfer documents by email, sharing on iWork.com, copy to iDisk, copy to WebDAV, or send via iTunes to a USB connected computer. An option which is not available, but often very useful, is to get the document into Dropbox for sharing. There is not an easy way to do this if you don't have a computer handy to connect with."

But thanks to a tip from the Dropbox Help Forums, there is a workaround to save your iWork documents in iDisk. It is a lengthy process, so I just wish iWork would add Dropbox support. Alternatively, Dropbox could add WebDAV support. Either way would work fine with me!

How About Some Updates?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/24963/safari...e+Intelligence)

"A 40MB Safari 5.0.2 Software Update just hit. From Apple:This update contains improvements to compatibility and security, including fixing an issue that could prevent users from submitting web forms, fixes an issue that could cause web content to display incorrectly when viewing a Google Image result with Flash 10.1 installed and establishes an encrypted, authenticated connection to the Safari Extensions Gallery."

You can find out more about it at the Apple support site, but it wasn't the only update. iWeb 3.0.2 was released, as well as updates to the apps Find my iPhone and iDisk.

Not Quite iTunes in the Cloud

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

"Well, would you look at that? The v1.2 update to MobileMe iDisk that Apple pushed out last month has a secret -- er, did have a secret."

And the not so secret secret is that it allows you to play audio via your MobileMe app, from your iDisk, while using another app. While this isn't exactly "iTunes in the cloud" that many sites are talking about, it is a step in the right direction.

MobileMe Calendar Beta and iDisk Updated

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/07/...igned-calendar/

"Too lazy to cancel your $99 MobileMe automatic subscription renewal and make the jump to one of the many free alternatives? Don't worry, your lethargy has paid off this morning as Apple introduces its new MobileMe iDisk 1.2 app and a beta version of its new MobileMe Calendar."

The MobileMe Calendar Beta design follows the calendar design of the iPad, and also adds enhancements such as sharing, event invitations and publishing a calendar to groups. The best upgrade in my opinion is the adoption of the CalDAV standard. If you decide to give MobileMe Calendar beta a try, Apple has set up a page on how to prepare for it [link]. As far as the iDisk update, it is now optimized for the iPad screen, supports iOS 4 multitasking and gives you the option to open your iDisk docs in apps that are compatible with it, such as iBooks.

iDisk App Updated

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 08:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2009/12/...and-a-new-icon/

"Apple just updated MobileMe iDisk's iPhone companion app. The app's main change is a new icon that might look better but actually doesn't illustrate the app's purpose as well as the old one."

I'm undecided on the logo. It is true it doesn't reflect what the app does, but I like the cleaner look of it. As far as the update goes, there were minor bug fixes but they also improved the download speed, added auto-complete for email addresses when choosing recipients for a shared file, file sharing emails automatically saved to your Mail account Sent folder, increased maximum cache size to 500MB from 200MB and added functionality for saving images.

Apple Updates MobileMe

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/143...l?lsrc=rss_main

"Apple seems to be getting used to rolling out small but useful upgrades. Hot on the virtual heels of the iPhone OS 3.1.2 release, Apple on Friday announced some improvements to the MobileMe service."

Not a big update, but they gave MobileMe users new settings for public iDisk files, improved the Web interface and gave the "Find my iPhone" feature it's own link. They also tossed in a fix for several bugs, one of which was a fail message when importing multiple contacts. Apple has a list of improvements from this update on their support page.

iDisk App for iPhone 3.0 For You MobileMe Subscribers

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 08:00 AM

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...-for-iphone.ars

"Apple said that an iDisk app for iPhone OS 3.0 was "coming soon" ever since the update launch last month. It's now available, with some interesting functionality."

The app lets you view and download a variety of files, such as Quick Time and JPEGs, but Apple does warn that if the file is over 20MB, it might not be viewable. However the video and audio files are streamed so that shouldn't be a problem. You can also email links from within the app to share files as you would if you were on your desktop and accessing the MobileMe website. If you are interested in seeing how it works, Apple has a video tutorial available.

Share Larger Files With MobileMe

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/02/13/mobi...ing-with-idisk/

"Apple yesterday (February 12th) announced a new addition to Mobile Me: The ability to share large files with others via iDisk. One of our readers had noticed an announcement about it way back on New Year's Day."

This makes it pretty easy to share files, sending the person you want to share with a link they click on to download the file. Now you won't have to worry about an attachment on an email being too large and getting an error message from your email provider. The advantage over something like Dropbox is that you can also password protect and put an expiration date on the link. I think I still prefer the ease of Dropbox, but this is a nice improvement to iDisk. Apple has also posted a video tutorial on how to use the new feature.

MobileMe Control Panel V1.3 Now Available for Windows Users

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.macnn.com/articles/09/02...ntrol.panel.13/

"Apple has released version 1.3 of the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows. The panel is a required tool for users wanting to sync and manage MobileMe and iDisk in Windows."

The update is required if you want to manage your MobileMe and iDisk in Windows. This also adds a nifty icon in the system tray to signal a sync in progress. You can get more info at the Apple site.
