iPhone Catches Fire on Flight

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:30 PM

"On November 25th, a Regional Express flight from Lismore to Sydney in Australia had an unusual occurrence after landing when a passenger's iPhone started emitting a significant amount of dense smoke and glowing red."

This certainly is scary! Hopefully just an isolated incident thankfully, but I certainly wouldn't like to see this happening, especially on a flight! I'm curious as to what temperature it did reach since it really did a number on this iPhone.

UPDATE: Apparently this isn't an isolated as another report in from Brazil on the same issue.

Amazon.com Debuts a Whole Lot of Kindles

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 08:53 AM

http://www.businessinsider.com/amaz...et-event-2011-9

"Jeff Bezos just introduced the Amazon Fire, a full color tablet which will radically disrupt the tablet market."

Four Kindles revealed this morning, the not so new original Kindle with the price lowered to $79.00 USD, the Kindle Touch for $99.00 USD, Kindle Touch 3G for $149.00 USD and then of course the Kindle Fire. It's the Amazon version of a tablet, dual core processor and proprietary web browser to enhance the experience, since it isn't as powerful as most tablets out there. However, it's not bad to be honest, especially if you do a lot of stuff with Amazon.com such as using their Amazon Prime service. This is really a tablet built to use with Amazon.com services. It will retail for $199.00 USD and will start shipping on November 15th. So, what are your thoughts?

FiRe Audio Recorder Now Available

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.mtechmarketing.com/AFE_042309_FiRe.html

"Audiofile Engineering, a leading audio software developer for the Mac, announces the world's first professional field recorder built exclusively for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Created for audio professionals by audio professionals, FiRe brings several firsts to the iPhone platform. Audio pros can now use this mobile platform for serious field recording with an accurate real-time waveform display, audio markers, support for professional Broadcast WAVE metadata, and the instant downloading of audio files in multiple formats."

I've always had a need for a field recorder, but never had (and still don't have) the money to buy one. Enter my iPhone, which already does pretty much everything in my life anyway, and now I may not need to shell out for one. It even supports external microphones!

At $5.99, maybe it's worth looking at regardless. Anyone else in the market for a field recorder and liking what they're seeing here?
