"Following suit with other carriers, Verizon Wireless announced this morning its plan to instate a $30 mobile device upgrade fee on April 22nd. This means if you're an existing Verizon customer looking to purchase a new device on a two-year contract, you'll have to pay $30. Thanks!"

Yes, thanks! Oh well, it was bound to happen right? This fee covers all mobile devices so the thought is that it would also cover iPads, but that isn't confirmed. You can read the announcement from Verizon here.

Telstra Dropping Unlock Charge

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.itwire.com/your-it-news/...ck-fee-now-free

"In a sign that Telstra might actually be a little serious this time about the noises it repeats every few years about 'finally' wanting to truly get 'customer service right', Telstra has announced it is dropping its previously expensive $150 unlock charge to the much wallet-friendlier price of $0."

So what they were charging, for the ability to take out your microSIM and put in another microSIM of the country you were planning to visit, was a hefty $150.00 USD unlock fee. Basically, Telstra locked down all iPhones purchased through them so you couldn't use it on any other network without paying this fee, so now they have back peddled and are now going to allow you the option for free. I have no experience in doing this as I haven't been outside the US in a long time, but I'm curious how many of our readers have had to go through this. Regardless of the country you are in, please post a reply and how you deal with travels outside your home country when you need to have cell service.
