Bing Adds Airport Maps

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 02:00 AM

"I've gotten lost at JFK Airport more times than I care to admit. But Bing Maps now offers full maps of airports so you make it to your flight without getting turned around."

Nice addition to the maps! They don't have every airport but they do have the major ones. Just do a search for a specific airport and it will give you the option for terminal map once you click on the main map.

Microsoft Releases Bing App Specifically for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:00 AM

http://macdailynews.com/2011/04/07/...g-for-ipad-app/

"Microsoft today (on Thursday) released their free Bing for iPad app."

The app is free [link], and there is also one for the iPhone [link]. Interestingly enough these aren't universal apps, there is one for the iPhone and one for the iPad, so the results and images for this app are iPad optimized. With the iPad app, you get touch enabled movie listings, articles, local business as well as traffic and weather news for the local area. You can also use voice activated search with this new app.

An Updated Bing App, For Your Traveling Pleasure

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 03:13 PM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/09/...l-map-features/

"It has been a few months since Microsoft updated its Bing iPhone and iPod touch app with any substantial features, but today they have decided to put an end to that streak. Bing v1.3 adds new travel and map features that bring it much closer to the company's desktop search tool."

Flight information from a link on the home screen is one addition, that also helps you find some deals on your last minute and weekend travel plans. You can also search by destination or estimate costs for other dates and airports. The map is also changed a bit, so now the background has business listings, traffic tie ups and other labels. And to top it off you can use it in list view or map view, which when you add it all together, it means this free app [link] has a lot of value to it.

Google to Remain iPhone Default Search Provider

Posted by Michael Knutson in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:30 PM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...one_search.html

"Google recently extended its contract with Apple, making the dominant search provider the default option on devices running iOS, including the iPhone."

In the spirit of coopetition, Google has extended its contract with Apple to remain the default search provider on the iPhone (and iOS devices). Interesting to read Eric Schmidt's comments about how Apple and Google are, and will remain, close. Microsoft's Bing, rumored at one point to be in line to replace Google now has to settle for being an option on iOS 4 devices. Anyone have any strong feelings one way or another in the Google vs Bing battle?

Bing for the iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:30 PM

http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/22/bi...-iphone-update/

"Microsoft has just released an updated version of the Bing for iPhone app (iTunes link), and it brings two major goodies."

They added Google Goggles, for visual scanning of certain objects, and also connection for your social networking sites. You can read more about the new features at the Bing Blog, but basically adds barcode scanning to bring up results for that item in Bing, such as reviews, prices, etc. and ties in updates from Facebook and Twitter accounts from within the Bing app.

Bing Comes to the iPhone App Store

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/arti...its_the_iphone/

"Microsoft's Bing application rolled out onto Apple's App Store on Wednesday, giving iPhone and iPod touch a native application for using the Redmond-based company's online search engine."

I've only had this app for an hour or so, but I really like it. The main focus is to help you find locations, business and other services, and it lets you do your searches by voice. It is a free app so give it a test drive, you have nothing to lose.

Bing's Visual Search

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 08:00 AM

http://mashable.com/2009/09/15/bing-iphone-apps/

"We're quite impressed with Bing's brand new Visual Search product. Launched yesterday, the it provides a pictorial way to search via image galleries."

I have to admit it is a cool way to search if you have some time to kill. Go to the Visual Search site in Bing, and they give you several categories from politicians to cell phones to movies. You have to install Silverlight for it to work, and it is a pretty slick way to search visually. The screenshot above is from a search for iPhone apps.
