Expand Your Apple TV's Output Potential

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/165716/59-...display-system/

"AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring add a lot of value to the second and third generation Apple TVs. Paired with a recent iPad or the iPhone 4S, an Apple TV can instantly become a gaming solution and a theater for home movies - and will be amazing when combined with Mountain Lion when it ships this summer."

The limit is the HDMI port for output, but with this handy adapter from Kanex called the ATV Pro Adapter, that limit is now gone. The port is standard VGA port along with the 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack so now you can connect your Apple TV to a number of different older displays.

Tripod Options for Your iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2012/01/...one-to-a-tripod

"I've been writing about apps that benefit from use of a tripod recently, such as GroupShot and Average Camera Pro. As it happens, the Kungl Tripod Adapter came across my desk, and I thought some of our users might be interested in such a product."

The nice feature about this is it also acts as an iPhone case. All you do is screw it onto the tripod when you need to use it. Another option is the Glif or Glif+. I have used the Glif since purchasing it via Kickstarter, and found it to be very useful as well. They also have a kit you can purchase that gives it additional security when using it on a tripod. The Kungl is $19.95 USD and available here, while the Glif+ is $30.00 USD and available here.

Apple Releases 30-pin to Micro USB Adapter

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.insanely-great.com/news....nely+Great+Mac)

"A new Apple' branded 30-pin to micro USB adapter popped up over on the Apple UK store. The adapter fits into the iPhone's dock, and allows users to sync and charge via a micro USB connector."

The adapter sells for £8.00 and will be available starting October 14th with compatibility to iPhone 3G/3GS/4/4S. This is in response to the EU regulations in place for phasing out the need for a variety of charging cables. A single standard, wouldn't that be nice here in the US? I would rather companies did it on their own versus government intervention but in this case it was the latter.

Great Deal on iPhone 4 Power Adapter from TiPb

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:19 PM

http://store.tipb.com/apple-usb-pow...e/5A17A5673.htm

"Featuring a compact design, this convenient USB-based power adapter offers fast, efficient charging at home, in the office, or on the go. It works with iPhone 4 and all iPod models with a dock connector."

I have several USB cables for iPhones, but with the iPhone 4 and the bumper, I have to use the latest version (unless I want to take off my bumper to charge and that gets annoying) of the power adapter in order for it to fit properly. Dropping $30.00 USD isn't my idea of fun so with this sale, it only makes it half as painful since they are selling them over at TiPb for $14.95 USD. Great deal if you need an extra adapter.

Tom Tom Comes Out With Adapter for iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

"We still maintain that you've got better options than TomTom when it comes to iPhone GPS software, but if you pulled the trigger before giving yourself a moment to consider what you were actually doing, this here news may just interest you."

Sure beats using up a folded piece of cardboard doesn't it?

New USB Charger for our European Friends From Apple

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 08:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/01/...iphone-charger/

"Apple has just released a brand new European USB charger for its iPod/iPhone line. It looks way better than the current American one (which came to replace the defective original one) and will also nicely replace our old bulky European bricks."

I know it's only a charger but I really like the looks of this, very slick, and it has the "traditional 2 pins on one side and a full-featured female USB port on the other." Line up now! Well, if you are in Europe that is...

Belkin Issues Recall for TuneBase Products

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/09/1...al.fire.hazard/

"Accessory maker Belkin has issued a special product recall, addressing some of the company's TuneBase car docks. Specifically affected are the TuneBase FM with ClearScan, the TuneBase FM with Hands-Free, and the TuneBase Direct with Hands-Free."

The model numbers are F8Z441, F8Z441ea, F8Z442, F8Z442ea, F8Z176 and F8Z176eaBLK. If you go to Belkin and fill out the web form, they will mail you a prepaid UPS label to use. Some of these products are heating up, and actually smoking when used.

ReCoil iPhone/iPod Adapter for Your Auto

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/140...l?lsrc=rss_news

"iPod and iPhone accessory vendor Scosche has released ReCoil, a car-charging solution that connects to your vehicle's 12-Volt accessory jack ("cigarette lighter" socket) and charges an iPod or iPhone via a built-in dock-connector cable."

This is another "Made for iPod/Made for iPHone" device so you can be sure it will work. I have a few adapters for my cars that sit in a drawer because I didn't make sure when I bought them. This one seems rather cool since the cable is retractable, and at $30.00 USD, not too bad of a price for something that works with both iPods and iPhones.

Shuffle USB Adapter Cleans Things Up

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPods" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...pod-shuffle-3g/

"We've already seen the first Apple-developed accessory for the third-generation iPod shuffle; now Dexim has the first third-party accessory, Shu-Lip ($16). Designed as an alternative to Apple's iPod shuffle USB Cable, Shu-Lip is an aluminum USB dock for the shuffle with a standard full-sized USB plug on one end, and a shuffle-specific headphone port power and sync adapter on the other."

I love my 3G Shuffle, and I think this adapter is one of those things that Apple should've tossed in the box instead of the stupid little pigtail thing they did. It's nicely made and iLounge has a lot more in the way of photos from various angles. If you didn't know Apple didn't make it, you'd never guess it.
