10.5.7 Not For You? Here is How to Go Back

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.macfixit.com./article.ph...090514132546680

"The latest update to Mac OS X includes many enhancements, security fixes, and many people are noticing an overall speed increase, especially on older PowerPC machines. These benefits and the fact that problems, so far, have not been severe, have us recommending this update for most people. Despite this, some people may wish to revert back to the previous OS version."

There have been reports of problems with this update, so if this update isn't quite working out for you, you do have options. This is a short and sweet article, with several options based on your setup, on how to go back to the previous version of your OS. I haven't had to do this in such a long time (knock on wood) and I found it was an interesting article to read and refresh my memory on just what I would need to do to restore a previous version of my operating system.

10.5.7 Is Here...

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple News" @ 09:00 AM

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3397

"The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac. For detailed information about security updates, please visit this website."

Nothing in this update too compelling for me; for the most part I'm not needing any of the fixes offered. I'll upgrade anyway, but this one seems like a relatively minor one to me. Maybe I'm missing something?

Rumor: 10.5.7 Coming Friday

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 11:00 AM

http://www.maclife.com/article/news...our_macs_friday

"If you've been champing at the bit for the magic of 10.5.7, according to a super-secret Apple source, your champing can cease on Friday. The newest version of Leopard is slated to fix a slew of networking, syncing and bluetooth issues."

I'm not really having a lot of issues with the current build of Leopard aside from a weird freeze up issue on occasion when I plug and unplug the mini DisplayPort adapter, but other than that, I'm not dying for 10.5.7. Anyone out there hoping it drops before the weekend?

ATI Radeon Graphics Problem on New iMacs

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Desktops" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...k_up_issue.html

"In a near-repeat of an issue that plagued the aluminum iMac early on, owners of new iMacs equipped with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics chipset are encountering frequent system freeze issues. Various buyers reporting back to AppleInsider, as well as those in Apple's support forums (one, two), describe an issue where iMacs custom-ordered with the faster video hardware will hard-lock at random, forcing the user to reboot."

Apparently it doesn't even matter if you are running OS X or Windows on the machine, still manages to lock up the iMac. Apple, according to the forums, is aware of the problem and they are supposed to have a fix in with the release of 10.5.7.
