iPhone 3G S Sales Beat Projection

"Despite shorter lines than last year, two weeks of pre-orders and higher than expected sales volume may have Apple reaching or exceeding the 1 million unit sales mark it hit during the first weekend of the iPhone 3G's launch. That would beat analyst expectations of about a half a million units."
We noted earlier this week that the analyst from Piper Jaffray, Gene Munster, predicted that this past weekend the sales would probably not be more than 500,000 units due to a few factors such as less countries selling it, not enough of a change, etc. However AT&T reported that it had pre-sold hundreds of thousands of units here in the US and Apple, I'm sure, also had high pre-sale numbers. So coupling that with the sales from Best Buy and Wal-Mart, it was expected that sales would beat projections.
And today's news release from Apple confirms the 500,000 was a low estimate, very low in fact. According to Apple, they sold over 1 million iPhone 3G S models for the weekend ending Sunday June 21st.
