Telstra Dropping Unlock Charge
Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM
"In a sign that Telstra might actually be a little serious this time about the noises it repeats every few years about 'finally' wanting to truly get 'customer service right', Telstra has announced it is dropping its previously expensive $150 unlock charge to the much wallet-friendlier price of $0."
So what they were charging, for the ability to take out your microSIM and put in another microSIM of the country you were planning to visit, was a hefty $150.00 USD unlock fee. Basically, Telstra locked down all iPhones purchased through them so you couldn't use it on any other network without paying this fee, so now they have back peddled and are now going to allow you the option for free. I have no experience in doing this as I haven't been outside the US in a long time, but I'm curious how many of our readers have had to go through this. Regardless of the country you are in, please post a reply and how you deal with travels outside your home country when you need to have cell service.
