Apple Now Third in US Computer Sales Market Share

"Apple achieved a rare feat and outsold Acer in the US this summer, new IDC estimates showed today. The company is estimated to have shipped almost exactly 2 million Macs just to the US in the quarter, beating out the combined Acer and Gateway's 1.95 million."
Preliminary numbers, but Apple seems to be in the ascendancy - in the US at least. In addition to overtaking the Acer Group for third place, Apple's US growth from 3Q09 to 3Q10 was 24.1%, over twice that of the closest competitor, Toshiba. Worldwide, Apple didn't make the Top Five, and Lenovo and ASUS showed the most growth, at 32.9% and 30.5% respectively. Interesting that HP still leads the pack, despite almost flat sales in the same time period. It appears that Apple is seeing benefits from the 'halo effect' caused by the iPad, and, as expected, netbooks suffered, especially in the US. Interesting stuff.
