Apple Thoughts: Verizon? It's Anyone's Guess At This Point

"Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal went out on a limb, and stated that we'd see a Verizon iPhone by early 2011. Obviously, we all took this with a grain of salt: more often than not, such predictions turn out to be false. We've heard rumors of a Verizon iPhone for years now, and so far, nothing's come of it."

We don't go into rumors around here too much, but this one is really getting legs. First the Wall Street Journal reports unnamed source that confirms Verizon is getting the iPhone in first quarter of 2011, then the New York Times picks it up and says they have also confirmed it independently, also with an unnamed source. If that wasn't enough, even our statewide paper The Oregonian started reporting on it and the cable news programs also started reporting it. How many AT&T subscribers will switch carriers and how many current Verizon subscribers will switch to the iPhone is anyone's guess, but the buzz around here is such that I expect it to be a pretty high number. Right now though, the only sure things is that if it isn't coming, there are going to be a lot of people with egg on their faces.
